richmond-san rafael bridge as drivers making their way across in the dark about 4:30 this morning. the rain of course has been very steady throughout the bay area. this is our own parking lot drenched in water last night around 1:00 this morning. this morning we have the entire bay area covered as we're getting slammed by a series of storms. we'll check in with christina loren and mike inouye in just moments but let's check in with christie smith. she is at the richmond-san rafael bridge. pretty dramatic the footage we've see. >> reporter: we've been in marin since about 4:00 this morning and the words of the day is cats and dogs. it has not stopped at all, the rain still pounding this morning. we were at the richmond-san rafael bridge where the lights were out at least an hour. some of them back now but when we were at the highest parts of the bridge, the wind pushed and pulled our news van as we tried to cross. it was treacherous driving out there this morning. i think you mentioned this, but i just got off the phone with the chp and they're telling me the bay bridge lights bein

will be stopping by this san rafael fire station to fill up their sandbags in preparation for the flooding to deal with all of that water which will certainly be an issue for homeowners. the north bay will be hit hard and of course nobody wants to be caught off guard. at san rafael public works, they have moved sand into various neighborhoods and sand bags will be ready to go as heavy rain moves in. it is expected to be the heaviest and the rain will be most intense in the north bay with several inches expected to come down. crews in this area have been checking the pumps, checking the drains and checking to see if they are ready for that rain. those downed power lines as well, those sandbags will come in handy for a lot of homeowners. >> it is easier to do it in advance of the storm if you water coming in where it shouldn't, you can divert it with sandbags. it is a cheap easy fix. >> meantime, this hardware store is seeing people coming in picking up supplies and those tarps have been selling especially fast. now in this area, the rains rundown from the hills and they come right down to san rafae

and wind. amy hollyfield joins us live from san rafael. >> reporter: good morning. the rain just started seconds ago. heavy drops, not a gust yet, not a downpour. the rain is here. all the forecasts are coming true. grab your rain jacket this morning. take a look at this video, likes like this area is ready. people spent yesterday preparing, taking forecasts seriously, we saw a lot of people going to stations their cities set up, a lot in the north bay, where people were gathering sandbags, preparing, putting them around their homes, we saw a lot of people clearing out gutters. people taking this storm seriously. >> bottom of the hill san rafael comes down the hill hard taking precautions. got a little flooded last year. >> reporter: people in downtown san anselmo are watching the storm carefully. downtown flooded in 2005. the downtown seems confident this year that things are going to be okay the creek looks low, people have sandbags, they are ready they cezanne anselmo is a tough town -- they say san anselmo is a tough down and will be fine. national weather service describes what is a

the golden gate bridge. i came down from san rafael where it was dry around 3:30 this morning. we started getting light sprinkles across the golden gate bridge. you can see the slick roads and we saw chp officers slowly heading into the northbound direction to put pick up the road work at north end. leverage road closed until 5:30 because of road work. there is detour in place. other road work at alameda. on-ramp of 880 is closed. dumbarton bridge, left lane closed until 5:00 for road work as well. >> eric: the prospect of rain has public work crews in daly city racing to shore up a damaged hillside and prevent a mudslide that buried a street and cars on it last week. amy hollyfield is live in daly city with an update for us. >> reporter: city officials have asked the people who live here to keep an eye on the situation throughout the rainy weekend. within minutes they suspect any problems. crews prepared the area trying to make it rain proof. the park is now surrounded by hay bales and nettingering the area and uncovered a storm driaw in the middle of the park. >> basically we're trying
ginnis golf club. san rafael police say a pilot was the only person on board when the accident happened and he managed to get himself out of the plane and call 911. police say it sounds as though the plane may have slid off the runway into the marsh and that the pilot may have suffered minor injuries. we have a ktvu news crew on way to the scene and we'll continue to follow the story for you. >>> workers at the port of oakland are on strike today. christien kafton joins us live to explain why and how it is impacting business there. >> reporter: good afternoon. take a look. you can see that the workers are here at one of the entrances to the port. now, we understand that word is spreading among those workers right now that they can picket out here. they can demonstrate but they cannot block more vehicles from entering. meanwhile, we can tell you that other unions out here at the port are refusing to cross those picket lines. members marched in front of the entrances of the port today starting at about 5:30 this morning, blocking more than 100 trucks trying to deliver or pick up cargo containers

it will be abrupt. overnight san rafael 15 degrees above freezing, so i think in a snow will do fine. they will make more tomorrow. fremont 47. mountain view 49. 48 san jose. another chilly night in napa with some fog possible in napa and sonoma counties down to 42 degrees. the storm track is very active and that's key for us actually coming up next week. there's a lot of tropical moisture out there. right now, high pressure is deflecting all of that tropical moisture into western oregon, western washington and southwest british columbia. so we're not getting it. we're several hundred miles away from it. it will stay that way until tuesday. we have four more days saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday where high pressure will be in control but once that moves out, there's a large area of low pressure that will shove that storm track down to the south and now all that steady soaking rainfall will move right into the bay area. that transition day is likely wednesday. and it's going to be a significant pattern change. that will make us very wet starting next wednesday. so enjoy the sunshine while we have it

. take a look at those trees and the flag. high strong winds are here at the richmond/san rafael bridge. the national weather service says wind will pick up to 45 to gust of 65 miles an hour. the combination of wind and rain is dangerous especially with the cars on the road and officers say it's best to drive slowly like you're in fog and ice. trucks and high-profile vehicles should be careful on the bridges. the roads change with these conditions. >> we are expecting a large amount of water in a short period of time. that brings slippery roads. that means more accidents. >> reporter: along with traffic problems, accidents, high winds are also expected to bring mass power outages and that's because of downed trees and branches. so pg&e crews were busy yesterday cutting down trees and clearing excess debris. again, this wind isn't going away anytime soon. you can still see it is picking up here in this area and we are told that these high wind warnings are going to last until 11:00 today so again, be careful on those road as you drive to work this morning. live at the richmond/san rafael
